How to Join Freemen’s

Everything you need to take the next step – clear, supportive guidance from enquiry to first day.

Whether your child is an ambitious explorer, creative thinker or natural leader, we want them to be the best – and happiest – they can be.

Our main entry points are Year 3, Year 7, Year 9 and Year 12, though applications for other years (Year 4–10) may be considered if places are available.

At Our Open Events

Join us for an open event. We recommend you come the year before you wish to apply, but will be delighted to see you whenever you can visit.

Step 1: Visit Us

Join one of our open events to experience Freemen’s in action. Explore classrooms, meet staff and pupils, and get a real sense of our community.

Step 2: Register

Complete the online registration by 1 October the year before entry.

A non-refundable £200 registration fee applies.

For 11+ (Year 7) and deferred 13+ (Year 9) entry, please also register on the ISEB Guardian Portal to sit the Pre-Tests in the autumn of Year 6.

Step 3: Entrance Assessments

Junior School (Years 3-6)

Junior School entry is based on a holistic assessment of your child’s strengths:

Assessments take place in December for entry into Years 3-6.

Senior School (Years 7-10)

Senior School entry combines academic assessment with opportunities for pupils to show curiosity, character and creativity:

Assessments take place in November for Year 7 and above.

ISEB Pre-Tests (11+ and deferred 13+)

The ISEB Pre-Tests are multiple-choice, adaptive, age-standardised online tests in Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning.

Candidates may sit the tests:

Tests must be completed by the last day of November in Year 6.

Sixth Form (Year 12)

External applicants do not sit entrance assessments if they are taking seven or more GCSEs including Maths and English.

Entry is based on:

Interviews and activities take place in early November.


Step 4: Offers & Taster Events

Offers are sent in mid-December, with scholarship results in January. Offer-holder taster events run in January and February.


Step 5: Acceptance

Return the acceptance form with your deposit:

New Starter Packs are sent in the Summer Term.


Step 6: Induction

Induction events in the summer term help pupils and parents settle in ahead of your September start.
